Making a difference in education

By OEC team Comments

Flash back to the Finalists' Workshop. After long hours of preparation and practice, one by one the finalist teams made their pitches to the OEC Jury. As each team finished, they stepped outside to take a breath of fresh air and relax. Then, they sat down with us to film a more intimate and relaxed interview. In this video, we compiled some of the most insightful and inspiring answers from the nine winners.

Here are some of our favourite quotes from the finalists:

“I think it’s important to have a clear idea of where you want to go. It’s very easy to get distracted and try to do too much. You can’t solve all the world’s problems.” - Michael Howe, GroupMOOC

"Learning is a very personal experience and it’s not just a consumer thing that you throw at clients for them to buy. Here [at the Open Education Challenge], we feel that we are more understood and that we could present more aspects of our product, not just what some investors would like to see, like show us the numbers, because it’s not just about the numbers when you’re dealing with learning.” - Panagiotis Siozos, LearnWorlds

"The joy that you get from seeing your concept turn into a working product, and from your working product translating into something that’s used by the client; that joy of creation is to me what defines entrepreneurship.” - Subramanian Viswanathan, Harness (Learning 2.0)

"I think [entrepreneurship] is a way of living, and a way of focusing your life on what you want to do and how you want to do things, and how you want to change things and improve, it’s not just about making money.” - Tomas Martinez Buero, Klap
