By admin Comments

The first edition of the European Incubator for Innovation in Education - related to the Open Education Challenge is about to start with the participation of eight winning teams. The awarded teams will gather at the Design Factory of Aalto University (Espoo, neighbouring city to Helsinki, Finland) to meet with representatives of this vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem from September 2 to September 5, 2014.
The inaugural residential of this 12 weeks programme, which includes visits to innovation hubs in London, Paris, and Berlin, will be the starting point of a blended personalized mentoring and coaching process that enables the teams to be supported by Europe’s top experts in education, technology and entrepreneurship.
The role of Finland in pushing forward major changes in education is particularly relevant for the Open Education Challenge and it was symbolically important to start our incubation process here”, stated Pierre-Antoine Ullmo, co-founder of the initiative, launched in partnership with the European Commission.
The focus of this first meeting is on design: design thinking in general and in the context of an ed-tech startup, and educational design (or learning design). The initiative is supported by Aape Pohjavirta, who will lead a Masterclass on the entrepreneurial path, as well as Santtu Toivonen (Sanoma Pro), Sotiris Makrygiannis ( and Mikko-Pekka Hanski (Idean), among others, who also participate in the agenda. Pohjavirta’s session will be livestreamed and can be seen here (September 3, 12.30h EEST).
We invite those interested in edu tech and innovation in education to meet the teams at the showcase event which will offer networking opportunities. This event takes place at the ‘Design Factory’ of the university on September 4 at 19h. Registration is free and open:
